FAQs
what is marine protection film? (MPF)
It is a clear, durable urethane film applied to boats to shield gelcoat/paint from UV, scratches, saltwater, and stains. It lasts 5-10 years with proper care, simplifying cleaning, and maintaining resale value by creating a self-healing, hydrophobic barrier that enhances gloss and resists fading.
Where can marine protection film be applied?
To most any smooth surface such as hull sides, the transom, engine cowlings, interior surfaces, screens, windows, high-wear areas subjected to constant contact from crew traffic, gear, rods, and the elements. It prevents scuffs, fuel spills, and sun fade that are inevitable without proper protection. By applying MPF to these areas, you protect critical surfaces and retain resale value and visual appeal. Some forward-thinking owners are also opting to protect gunwales, rub rails, and even console areas—essentially, anywhere prone to repeated handling or UV degradation.
what is the difference between mpf and ceramic coating?
A marine protection film and a ceramic coating both serve to protect a boat's exterior, but they do so in different ways. MPF is a physical, flexible film applied to the surfaces that provides a self-healing, UV resistant protective layer. It is capable of resisting scratches, scrapes, and other minor damages.
A marine ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that bonds with the surface of your boat at a molecular level to create a hard, hydrophobic, and glossy layer. This coating enhances gloss and provides limited UV resistance but is not effective against physical abrasions such as MPF.
How can MPF help protect my boat from scrathes?
Marine protection film prevents scratches on your boat’s surfaces by providing a tough yet flexible barrier between the boat’s paint and the exterior environment. The film is made from a durable urethane material that resists penetration from objects and hazards. In rough marine conditions such as when docking or encountering debris in the water, your MPF acts as a shield to protect your boat. Additionally, the MPF products used by us have self-healing surface properties, meaning the light scratches and marring that normally occur can be removed with heat.
